I am alarmed and disheartened that our City is continuing to use funds provided by the 2200 households who pay for City Water to cover non-water-related expenditures.
Late in 2010, the Kitsap Utility District offered to take over the management of COBI’s water system, and they estimated that our bills would be cut by nearly 50%.
Since that time,
a) the recently formed Utility Advisory Committee, which is the ONLY watchdog we have over city utility charges, have declined to accept the KPUD offer. Of note, only 3 of the 7 members of this committee are ratepayers to COBI.
b) the city council has declined to accept KPUD’s management of city water
c) the city council recently voted to “hire a consultant” to determine if the KPUD management of our water was a good idea.
In the next few weeks, city rate payers will receive a petition insisting that COBI turn over the water management to KPUD. PLEASE make sure you sign this petition and promptly return it to city hall.
I’m attaching a handout I received at a recent meeting that is certain to surprise you with the detailed fiscal mismanagement of the amounts we pay each month, supposedly for water! I encourage you to share this with your friends and neighbors. We need to start a ratepayers rebellion right now!
Let me know if you need any more information.
